Quay Transport

A Bit About Us

Approaching its first centenary, the  Company was established in 1920 by Mr James Kirkby as a coal and fruit transporter. It developed into general transport from its former South Liverpool base until Mr Kirkby’s grandson, Gary  assumed control in 2000, when his father James retired. New premises at a convenient North Liverpool location were occupied in 2002

Since becoming Managing Director, Gary has concentrated on modernising and developing the business by constantly updating the fleet of vehicles and trailers. Today, he leads one of the foremost bulk liquid transport operations in Northern England.

A keynote of Gary’s tenure has been the introduction of the now mature Quality Management System  ISO9001, which guides every aspect of the business. In addition, the Company has consistently gained above average scores in the European Chemical Industry led “Safety, Quality and Sustainability” assessment (SQAS).

With a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, the Company, inter alia, ensures all employees are properly trained, treated fairly, with their professionalism respected. Many of the driving staff have in excess of 15 years service.

Quay Transport controls its business using the sophisticated “Haultec” computer system. Haultec controls and records all traffic movements through booking, allocation to vehicle and driver, issuing proof of delivery and producing invoices. In addition, maintenance and defects are controlled by the system.
